Hard Times Are Humanizing: Don’t Despise Your Struggles

As much as we’d all prefer for everything to always go our way, this is not what’s best for us.  The struggles that we face in life have a way of blessing us in more ways than we can imagine.  Hard times are humanizing.

As we experience our share of hard times, we’re able to understand that we aren’t exempt from suffering.  It’s humanizing and humbling to be able to look back over our lives and and see the many things that the Lord delivered us from.

We’ve all faced situations where we saw no way out.  Those situations that hurt like heck, but we made it through.

God has a way of allowing us to experience hard times so that we can learn to depend on Him.  Think about it.  If we never experienced hard times, we’d be overly prideful feeling as though we can’t be touched by trouble.  We’d feel as though we can handle life on our own, when in reality we can’t.

The apostle Paul writes about his weaknesses in II Corinthians 12.

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn of the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.  For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart form me.  And he said unto me,My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.‘  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

– II Corinthians 12:7-9

Our struggles allow us to realize that Christ has the power, not us.

They make us more human, understanding, and compassionate. Our hearts are softened and we feel blessed for the many things that we do have.  Hard times move us from entitled to simply grateful.  From prideful to humble.  From confident in self to confident in the power of Christ.

Regardless of what you are facing today,  I pray that you are able to see the blessings wrapped in your troubles.  This is not the end and God has a special way of humbling us in order to get His glory out of us.

Don’t despise your hard times.  As much as you can, embrace them & learn from them:

Hard times  are humanizing.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

– Romans 8:28
