MARRIAGE: Satan is after our kids

Why does Satan attack marriages the way he does?  Well, for many reasons because he’s evil and his whole agenda is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).  But why marriage?  One reason: Satan is after our kids.

Satan does not have authority over us, but his sight, power, and dominion is far-reaching (Ephesians 6:12).  Satan knows that marriage provides children with a protection, covering, and security like no other and if he can destroy that then our kids are in a much more vulnerable position.

When the marriage is destroyed, our kids are much more vulnerable to his attacks and evil influences.  We know that God created our children with purpose and He has plans to prosper them (Jeremiah 29:11), but that doesn’t mean Satan doesn’t have plans for them as well.

Satan has plans to destroy our kids.

Children are inherently vulnerable, which is why they need parents to care for them, teach them, train them, and prepare them.  Our kids need us to train them up in the ways of the Lord.  The Word of God is the only weapon that can stop Satan is his tracks.

We alone are no match for Satan- for he is extremely subtle and crafty.  He can deceive us without us even knowing that we’ve been deceived!  Satan will tempt us (by our own lusts, may I add: James 1:14), watch our destruction, and the whole time we’re wondering how we ended up in a pit.

Our victory over Satan and his schemes lies in us placing our faith in Christ & relying on, trusting in, and speaking the Word of God.

The more time we spend with God, the stronger our spiritual sight will become.  Alternatively, the less time we spend with God, the weaker our spiritual sight and strength.  That’s why the Bible tells us:

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

– Ephesians 6:11

Marriage is the work of God.  Marriage is God’s plan.  Marriage is God’s structure for the family and when we do it His way, we have a 100% success rate.  We have become so tainted and deceived into not respecting and cherishing marriage the way we should.

It is imperative for us to rely on wisdom from God when preparing for marriage.  Us choosing a marriage partner should be based on nothing but the leading of God.  His Word should guide us and His Spirit should confirm any marriage decision BEFORE we say I do.

Once we are joined with our spouse we have entered into a covenant relationship.  Marriage is not a contractual relationship that we stay committed to as long as they hold up their end of the deal.  In God’s eyes, we are now ONE with our spouse and we have to fight for our marriage against every attack of the enemy.

Once we say I do, God views us as one with our spouse:

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

– Genesis 2:24

The way we handle our marriages today will strongly influence the way our children view marriage and handle their marriages in the future.  If we are not married and are raising children, we must teach them the Word of God- not our traditions, our feelings, our attitudes, or our beliefs.  For it is God that will strengthen them and make their way perfect (Psalm 18:32).

As hard as we try, if we attempt to raise our children without the Word of God, we will fall short and ultimately so will they.  Raising our children without depending on God will set them up for failure and cause them to experience hurts that they need not experience.

God is a refuge and a protector.  His Word is the sword with which we fight.
Don’t despise marriage, don’t devalue it, don’t fear it- those are all strategies of Satan.  Satan is anti-God and his aim is to also cause us to be anti-God, whether we realize it or not.  Satan doesn’t care if we recognize him or his schemes, as long as we disobey God.

Spend time studying God’s Word.  Understand His mind and His will toward marriage and family, and may the mind of Christ be our mind so that we may be able to discern the will of God in our lives and in the lives of our children.

When you think about marriage, understand that it is much bigger than two people falling in love.  Yes, realize that Satan is after our kids- but more importantly know that God has a plan for them filled with hope and a future.

Marriage is no small thing.  Marriage is about building a legacy for not only our children, but for generations to come.

With love,
