Ignore the Negativity & Obey God

If we’re not careful, people will talk us right out of our dreams.  If we’re going to live the life that Christ died for us to live, we must learn to ignore the negativity & obey God.

So often people will tell us what we can’t do vs. what God told us we can do. People can be quick to point out all of the potential negative outcomes as opposed to considering the possibilities.

We have to know for ourselves what it is that we should be doing.

We have to get with God and then be bold enough to go out and do what He has commanded us to do. Consider Noah who was instructed to build the ark.  Surely, people didn’t understand and spoke negativity over his beliefs and actions.

We have to be strong enough to obey God in the face of opposition and even rejection.

People will often try to run and direct our lives.  They may try and tell us what we should do based on how they live their lives.  You must get to a place of asking yourself: “Do I want to live my life or someone else’s life?”

If we are going to live our dreams, fulfill our purpose, or do anything worthwhile then we have to be careful who we listen to.  It is imperative to learn how to ignore the negativity & obey God.

We have to know that everyone may not see the same dream that we see.  There are things that God places in our hearts but not in our family member’s hearts.  They may not get our vision or our plans, but that’s okay.  You must still be strong enough to obey God, anyway.

5 Ways to Ignore Negativity & Obey God

  1. Redirect them when they speak negativity over you.  Reply with words of faith to negative comments.  If someone says “You could never do that”, reply with “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
  2. Limit your time around negative people. It’s hard to stay positive and go toward your dreams if you are constantly hearing negativity.  It is imperative that you limit your time with negative people if you are going to fulfill God’s purposes for your life.
  3. Spend more time with God & His Word.  The more time you spend with God and His truth, the easier it will be to spot and ignore negativity.  Often, we don’t even spot negative, fear-filled talk because we haven’t yet discovered the truth and faith found in God’s Word.
  4. Protect your heart.  Guard the dreams that God has placed in your heart.  Don’t share them with everyone.  Some things are meant to be shared between you and God only.
  5. Pray.  Pray for the strength to carry out God’s calling on your life.  Ask God to specifically help you in the areas that you are struggling in.  Don’t feel inadequate as God often uses our weaknesses in order to keep us humble and dependent on Him.

God has a special plan for your life, but in order to fulfill it you must learn how to ignore the negativity & obey God.  I believe in you.  I know you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
