How To Keep Moving Forward in Life: 5 Tips

One of the things that I think we all try to figure out is how to keep moving forward in life. We fight to figure out what we want, then we wrestle with figuring out how to make it happen. We know we want to move forward in life, but we just can’t crack the code on how to make it happen.

How To Keep Moving Forward in Life: 5 Tips

1. Quiet Time.

There is no way that I would’ve made the progress that I’ve made in life up to this point, without my quiet time. I truly, truly value quiet time. Most everything worth value has come to me as a result of quiet time. I seek quiet time when I start my day, when I end my day, when I’m stressed, when I’ve had too much activity going on, etc. I could go on and on about the importance of quiet time.

Our quiet time is when our souls are refreshed, our minds are calmed, and our hearts can be revealed.

If you desire to keep moving forward in life, I encourage you to start prioritizing quiet time. Even our Savior prioritized quiet time away from the crowds:

“But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

– Luke 5:15-16

2. Limit stress.

This is huge. If you are going to move forward in life, you must learn how to limit stress and distractions. It is key, however, to be led by the Holy Spirit as opposed to the fleshly, ambitious nature; as there are some stressors that we can’t just remove ourselves from.

Parenting, for instance, is not easy, but we can’t excuse ourselves from the hard work of raising our children due to our desire to get ahead. It is key to keep our motivations in their proper place.

As you are keeping your priorities in place and relying on the Lord’s leading, He will open your eyes to those distractors and stressors in life that are only holding you back. Those stressors that are continual, never-ending, and joy-sucking are the things to focus on minimizing and/or removing.

Remember, Satan’s aim is always to steal, kill, and destroy us, and he will use any source he can in order to make it happen. Don’t be blinded by your emotions or the guilt appeals of others. Use wisdom and make the brave decisions you know you need to make in order to move forward in life.

3. Look within.

The journey to better is merely a journey of looking within. If you are going to move forward in life, you are going to have to deal with you. The majority of our challenges in life have less to do with external conditions and more to do with internal conditions.

The heart, the mind, thought patterns, triggers, reactions, etc. These are the issues that we must begin to assess if we are going to move forward in life.

Achieving goals and acquiring things will not satisfy or complete a person who is unstable and insecure on the inside.

4. Work.

Reality t.v. and much of the media that we consume do not present a real picture as it relates to progressing in life. If you want to change you life, you are going to have to work. If you want to live better, you are going to have to work. If you want to change you, you are going to have to work.

Moving forward in life, also known as growth, will require work.

There is no way around it. And if you do find a way to skip steps, you may not find yourself prepared for where you land.

5. Keep the faith.

Life is not easy, and I’m finding that the hardest thing to do in life is change. Following Christ will not always be easy. Obedience will not always be easy. Doing the right thing will not always be easy.

Adjust your perspective to know that moving forward in life will not always be easy.

As you do this, you are preparing yourself in advance for the challenges that are bound to come. Your faith will be challenged, your priorities will be challenged, your purpose will be challenged, your goals will be challenged.

No matter what comes, no matter what you face, you must keep your faith. You must fight to keep God #1 in your life, and allow Him to lead you everyday of your life. In order to do all that God has called you to do, you must depend on Him. In order to be all that God has called you to be, you must depend on Him.

In order to keep moving forward in life, you must keep following Him.
