Life is full of change. Things change, situations change, relationships change. When change occurs, we must respect it & move on.
Often, we want to understand the change- We ask why. We may resist the change- We try to force. We want to deny the change- We attempt to move on as if things are the same, knowing inside that they have changed.
Why is it so hard for us to respect it & move on?
Change is inevitable.
Changes throughout life represent growth. If we take a step back and objectively think about it, doesn’t a lack of change equate to stagnation? Mediocrity? Even death?
Things that don’t grow, die. Things that don’t change, die. Every living organism requires a certain change process to keep it going, evolving, and developing.
Change is necessary, and oh so beautiful when we embrace it.
We need change in our lives. Though it’s hard and uncomfortable, we must learn to welcome change. Or, at the very least respect it & move on.
When I say respect it & move on, I’m not referring to a grudgingly acceptance but rather a positive one. One that understands that life is about change.
As Christians, we must know that God has not called us to a life of sameness. We have been called to an active life, not a passive life. We have never been called to settle, accepting things as they are are, expecting them to stay the same. No, we should expect change. The scriptures prepare us for a life of change, but we have to study them in order to be prepared to handle the changes that will inevitably come our way.
Change is Inevitable: Respect it & move on.
The Bible directs us to follow Christ. Following is active which will certainly cause change (Matthew 16:24). We’re also told to renew our minds, which changes how we think and ultimately what we do (Romans 12:2). We are told to run from evil (Proverbs 13:6). This requires a change in environment. We are even told to avoid relationships with foolish people- Change (Proverbs 13:20; Proverbs 14:7).
Personally, one thing that has caused a lot of change in my life is deceit. I have grown to a place in my life where I don’t desire at all to spend time with people who aren’t true- people who lie, fake, and cover up. I inwardly desire authenticity, and I want to spend my time with people who are honest with no hidden motives.
We’d be surprised by the hidden motives that are all around us. A benefit of wholeheartedly depending on the Lord is that He reveals to us things that are hidden to the human eye. We have to trust Him and follow His leading; knowing that He has a way of protecting, directing, and displaying.
The Lord reveals that which is hidden to the human eye.
If we learn to trust Him, allowing Him to reveal to us what’s around us, then maybe we would embrace change a little better. Often, the changes that come our way are only to protect us. God will change our situation in order to protect us from something that we can’t even see.
He is a good Shepherd, and we are merely sheep. Sheep are dependent creatures. We must trust Him, knowing that we have the Holy Spirit within us that guides us into all truth (John 16:13). We must trust that change is good for us.
Change is inevitable. When it comes your way, respect it & move on.
