I don’t think we fully realize the importance of a week. We tend to focus on either the big picture or the day-to-day, but I want you to look at your week a little differently. I encourage you to begin to attack your week.
Attack Your Week
I believe if we begin to really assess our progress in life, or lack of it, we must begin to focus in on the week. Often, our week is what will get us. I’m encouraging you to adjust your perspective on the week for various reasons:
- Our time at work is broken down by the week.
- We tend to reset each week, with the majority of people living for the weekend.
- Even a month is broken down into weeks.
Most experts encourage large goals to be broken down into bite-sized chunks that are easy to manage. I do also encourage daily routines, and even breaks throughout the day, but I’m also encouraging you to adjust the way to view your week.
Attack Your Week: 5 TIPS
TIP 1: TAKE TIME OVER THE WEEKEND TO REFLECT.
As you close out your week, take the time to review and reflect. How did it go? Did you get done the things you planned to do? Did you even plan and have purpose for the week? If you’re not making the progress you’d like to be making, you must take time to figure out why. Identify what’s stopping you.
TIP 2: PLAN.
Once you have gained clarity, take the time to plan. And when I say plan, I’m referring to planning with a planner in hand. Don’t just dream and journal [which are both great things to do], but the for sake of this post, I’m referring to writing down what you are going to do & when. This is key.
In order to take action on important things & make sustainable progress, you must take the time to plan when you are going to do the things you need to do. Once you decide the best time to do it, you must hold yourself accountable to getting it done.
TIP 3: ANTICIPATE EXCUSES.
We all have obstacles, distractions, and excuses. We must begin to anticipate them and respond to them appropriately. For instance, today as I was thinking about why I haven’t been as consistent as I want to be, I realized it’s because I get tired. I have long days and I feel that there’s just not enough time. Like I’m already doing too much.
The truth is, this is an excuse.
As I realize this, I’m left with 2 options:
- Refuse to accept it and think of creative ways to get my things done.
- Accept it and simultaneously accept that I also will not get the results that I really desire.
TIP 4: ADJUST
Attacking your week and building off of your past experiences, will require you to adjust. We adjust based off what we come to realize through reflecting and planning. We adjust as we begin to accept our current realities. I think at times we all find ourselves waiting for the ‘perfect moment’ to do this or do that, yet we must adjust our thinking and realize there is never a ‘perfect moment.’ No matter the season of life that we find ourselves in, there will always be challenges.
Adjust and attack your week, anticipating challenges.
TIP 5: VISUALIZE
After reflecting, planning, anticipating excuses, and adjusting; I encourage you to begin to visualize. Visualize how you will do better next week than you did last week. Visualize how you will respond to the challenges that will inevitably come. Take the time to visualize yourself responding in a calm, healthy, productive manner- even when triggered.
Basically, take the time to visualize yourself doing what you need to do. Attack your week before it even comes by seeing yourself performing effectively. You can do it, because you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you [Philippians 4:13]. Dwell on the truth that He has good plans for you [Jeremiah 29:11]. Allow God’s truth empower you to attack your week, and inch closer & closer to all that He has for you.
With love,
