Take Control of Your Thoughts in the Morning: 5 Tips

How is your thinking in the morning? If you’re like me, you need time to get it together! The Lord has brought me such a long way with my morning mental state. I used to wake up mad, literally looking for things to take the anger out on. If we don’t get it together early, it’s easy for our entire day to be a mess. It’s imperative for us to take control of our thoughts in the morning.

Take Control of Your Thoughts in the Morning: 5 Tips

1. Wake up Early.

It can be hard to get yourself together if you wake up rushed. It’s key to give yourself enough time to focus yourself and get in the right mood before you start moving. Waking up early can be difficult, but it is so worth it. During this slower season of life that we’re in, a good goal to focus on is waking up earlier.

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;”

– Psalm 63:1

2. Praise the Lord.

I’ve recently created myself a Morning Glory playlist that I turn on when I first wake up. It immediately shifts my mind to the Lord, causing me to praise Him for His goodness!

3. Create a Morning Routine.

Our lives have changed so much due to the coronavirus, so now would be a good time to review or create a morning routine. What things need to be done when you wake up in the morning? Create a morning routine so your mind has something to think about when you arise in the morning.

4. Speak Declarations.

For the past few years, I’ve had daily declarations that I try to speak aloud daily. It is key for them to be scripture-based as there is power in the Word of God. Focus on your particular issues. What do you need to be reminded of daily? For instance, if you have an issue with pride then daily you could speak:

“Pride goeth before a destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

– Proverbs 16:18

5. Spend time with God.

We encounter so many issues throughout a day so it’s imperative for us to spend time with God in the morning to help us process everything. Journal your feelings about that situation from yesterday, talk to God about how you really feel about your life, and most importantly, spend time reading His Word so you can hear from Him!

We’re all coping in this season, and we must be intentional to stay on the right track. I encourage you to slow your pace today and take control of your thoughts in the morning. I know you’ll be blessed because of it.
