Start Each Day With a Clean Slate: 3 Tips

How was your yesterday? If you’re human, there were some good and some not so good moments. None of us are perfect so there are areas of opportunities in every day. How do you deal with those imperfections?

Start Each Day With a Clean Slate

It really takes intention to start each day with a clean slate. Naturally, yesterday tries to spill over into today. If we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves living yesterday over and over and over- unable to BREAK FREE & LIVE!

That is not God’s will for us. God’s will for us is to start each day with a clean slate.

How do we do that?

It takes intention. It takes early rising. It takes determination.

1. We must be intentional to deal with yesterday once and for all.

We must plan on fully dealing with yesterday so we can move forward in the new. One thing that I do is allow myself a short period of time to vent or talk about issues. I give myself the space to feel frustrated, but I won’t allow myself to feel frustrated about any particular issue indefinitely. Once I feel it and express myself about it, the goal is to be done with it. A helpful scripture with this is 1 Peter 5:7.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

You even have to remain intentional to be done with it if others bring it back up. Don’t allow others to keep you frustrated or focused on issues. Nope. Deal with it, feel it, express yourself and move on. Be intentional and protective with your energy. Even when worries pop into your mind, you must be intentional to give them to God and keep pushing.

2. We must rise early before the new day gets rolling so we can have the space and time to deal with yesterday and create a clean slate for today.

Yes, we must create the clean slate for today. One thing about life is that it keeps moving. There is always something to do. We can’t stop the world from spinning. As the old saying goes: Time stops for no one. Since this is the case, we must be wise stewards over the time that we do have. Before your day gets going, take the time to clean your slate.

Early rising is one of the hardest disciplines to implement and maintain. I’m still fighting at it, but I’ll keep fighting because I know it is so worth it. Test it out and compare a day of early rising with one of sleeping in. Early rising breeds proactivity while late rising breeds reactivity.

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be yet not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”

– Ephesians 5:15-17

3. We must be determined to do better today than yesterday.

We must be determined to progress. No matter what yesterday brought, we must remain hopeful. We have to know that as long as we’re living, we’re growing. Each day provides an opportunity to try again! This day give us another shot to give it our all. No matter what you face, keep your determination.

We must be determined to enjoy this blessed day that the Lord hath made! Though we so easily get bogged down by life’s responsibilities, truly, we are all simply blessed to be alive. Don’t take the small things for granted. A small shift in our circumstances would really allow us to see how the little things truly are the big things. Don’t forsake those seemingly small moments with your loved ones.

Take the time to count your blessings.

No matter what is going on in your life- God is good. That is a truth that will never change. God remains the same, and His mercies are new every morning. We must simply take ahold of them and receive them in our heart and mind.

So, what went on in your day yesterday that you need to deal with? Deal with it and start today with a clean slate.
