Would you say you live a simple life? I think most of us would laugh at that question. Nowadays, there is more to do than ever, while it seems that time is also moving faster than ever. What do you do when it feels that you’re going nowhere fast? I encourage you to simplify your life & work.
Simplicity doesn’t necessarily relate to what you’re doing, but rather how you’re doing it. We mustn’t exchange simplicity for complex in the name of progress. We can, and should, aim to progress in life while keeping things simple.
Simplicity breeds true progress, while chaos and overload breed stress.
We live in a hustle & bustle society, where complex is celebrated. People boast about their crazy schedules, and it seems we find no rest from our toil. We go, go, go, and strive, strive, strive; all the while lacking the purpose, values, and meaning that simplicity provides. Now, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be working hard- we should (Ecclesiastes 5:3). I’m solely encouraging us to focus on simplifying our lives & our work.
Simplify Your Life & Work: 3 Quick Tips
1. Consider your organizational strategies.
Start with your schedule, your space, and yourself. Are you organized? How do you keep everything together? If you do not have a system in place to keep everything organized, you will find yourself wasting energy trying to get things together so you can begin your work.
Simplicity breeds peace.
Lacking simplicity in your life will cause unnecessary stress. It can lead to exaggerating other issues in life, all the while failing to realize that a lack of simplicity is the source of the stress. Simplicity provides your brain the ability to function orderly, clearly, as well as critically.
2. Simplicity helps you to focus.
As you begin to simplify your life & work, you create the space to get really clear about what you really want in your life & in your work. Chaos and complex are obstructors to what truly matters in life.
What really matters to you?
You may have so much going on within you, as well as around you, that it’s hard to really tell. As you begin to simplify your life & work, you begin to really get to the heart of you and the heart of life.
3. Simplicity helps with goal-setting & progressing through life.
As you begin to clear the excess and mess, and get clear on what matters to you, you are in the prep stages for progress. Where there is simplicity, it is more difficult to get bogged down and/or distracted by issues of little to no importance.
Constant activity and movement keep you so busy that you have no time to assess and judge issues for their relevance in the grand scheme of things. When you live a simple, yet meaningful life, you have the ability to judge and discern more wisely.
Should we aim to progress in life? Yes. Does progress require chaos? No. There is a better way to live and there is a better way to work. You can move forward in life & work in a peaceful, simplistic, yet meaningful way. Consider the words of Christ in Matthew 11:28-29:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
With love,
