How To Focus On What Truly Matters: 5 TIPS

One of the challenges that we constantly face in life is to remain focused on what truly matters. When being pulled in different directions, how do you focus on what truly matters?

5 TIPS ON HOW TO STAY FOCUSED ON WHAT TRULY MATTERS:

1. Write out your priorities & review them regularly. One way that I remain focused on my priorities is that I have them written out. You can’t trust yourself to just ‘know‘ them. Knowing them in your mind is somewhat abstract, while writing them out makes them real. Write them out, review them regularly, even speak them aloud.

2. Get quiet. One thing that I’m continuing to learn about myself is that I desire peace. Quiet time is essential to staying focused on what truly matters. Noise is distracting. If you are going to get your priorities in line and stay focused on them, you must get quiet.

3. Manage your time. The only way you will spend your time on what truly matters is if you manage your time. This poses such a challenge, yet it is an area of our lives that we must master. We may never be perfect, but we must gain control of our time and continually grow & develop in managing it well.

4. Learn to say no. If you are a people-pleaser and desire to keep everyone else happy, it is likely that you will be unable to focus on those things that will move your own life forward. You must realize that in order to really put yourself in a position to help people, you may not be able to help them all the time- right now. You must allow the Lord to lead you so that you are able to say no and allow yourself to focus on the most important tasks right now. I get it, it’s not easy, nor is there a complete black and white answer. It’s imperative to have an active relationship with the Lord so you can identify and follow His leading on the particular situations that come your way.

5. Understand what truly matters. Oftentimes we prioritize the wrong things. We must spend quality time in God’s Word so we can grow in understanding His way, which truly matters. It’s easy for us to overly focus on ourselves or insignificant, superficial things; but God has a higher, better way:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.”

– Matthew 6:33

As we close out summer and enter into a new season, I pray that you take the time to prioritize so that you can focus on what truly matters.

Much love to you & blessings in this new season. Let’s make it count.
