How do you prioritize family? Though we all may answer the question a little differently, we must all be intentional to prioritize family. I’m finding that we are constantly challenged to keep family as a top priority.
The Importance of Prioritizing Family
God’s structure for society begins with the family. Scripture provides us with the understanding we need to properly prioritize and care for our families.
“For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.”
– Ephesians 5:31
We also understand that children must be raised in the ways of the Lord.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
– Proverbs 22:6
Prioritizing family begins with a proper foundation + effective nurturing.
In order to prioritize our families, we must realize just how much the family matters. So often, we are pulled in so many other directions that we just gradually begin to give more attention to less worthy matters. If we are going to properly prioritize family, we must really decide that family is a priority for us.
I encourage you to take the time to write out your priorities. Write them out and then compare them with how you spend your time. How we spend our time displays what we really are prioritizing. For instance, we may say that we prioritize family, but when we look at our time spent in a day, we realize that very little time was invested into our families.
This should humble and encourage us.
There has been so much going on in the world that our attention, emotions, and energy have been pulled. Some have been living in fear, some have been burdened with various pressures that have made it hard to really nurture the family.
No matter the circumstance, we must fully acknowledge and accept the importance of prioritizing family.
As you go about your day today, I encourage you to ponder your priorities. What really matters to you? How have you been spending your time? Allow the Lord to help you make any necessary changes so that you are investing into what matters most- your family.
With love,
