LIFE & WORK: Stop Adding New Goals

Setting goals is not always the problem. A lot of the time, our follow through on goals is the problem. Out of frustration at our results, due to the lack of follow through, we often resort to adding new goals. This is not the answer, however. Stop adding new goals, and start focusing in on the follow through of your current goals.

Stop adding new goals.

I get it. Sometimes it’s hard to nail down the root of the issue. While scrolling on Pinterest today, the book title “The Mountain Is You”, caught my attention. What if the issue standing between us and accomplishing our goals is us? Not the issues we so easily blame.

Focus in on you.

I can even attest to that. I’m definitely at a season in life where I can see my hang-ups and hindrances more easily. The thought patterns, the negativity, the self-limiting beliefs. See what I’m saying?

It’s so important for us to get to the root of the matter, as opposed to quickly pivoting to a new goal (which brings fresh excitement), all the while missing the real problem.

As you goal-set and focus on moving forward in life, begin to focus in on what you really want out of life. This may take some time! Be okay with that. It takes time & effort to really determine what you really want out of life, but the more clear you get, the more difficult it will be for you to be deterred.

We all face obstacles when working toward our goals. The difference, however, is in how we respond.

“If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

– Proverbs 24:10

Strength, perseverance, faith, and dedication are requirements for accomplishing any goal; and the greater the goal, the greater the strength needed.

Are you attempting to achieve great things? If so, great strength will be needed.

Lastly, none of us start having it all figured out as it relates to our life & work goals. We adjust and refine them as we go. That’s okay. Whatever you do, just keep going. You should be gaining clarity as you go.

Clarify your goals, but beware of dropping them and just adding new ones as a defense mechanism. This is self sabotage. Sometimes you may make changes, as there are definitely times when God leads us in new directions. There are other times, however, when you’ve received direction from God and you ought to keep working on your current goals.

Relying on God’s guidance will provide you the wisdom needed to make effective decisions regarding your goals.

With love,
