LIFE: It’s The Little Things

You don’t realize how special the little things are until you’re put in a position to see how special they really are.  If we’re not careful, we’ll begin to take things for granted that we should be extremely thankful for.  We think things have to be like this when really things could be a whole lot worse and we would still be blessed!  We think we’re so special when really He’s just so good.  We feel entitled when really we should feel humble that He chose us.

It’s the little things.

The blessing in not having everything that you want is that it forces you to be grateful for what you do have.  If we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves bitter, ungrateful, and envious- constantly wanting more when God is trying to teach us to appreciate what we do have.

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

– Philippians 4:11

I’m realizing that God can do anything.  Everything is at His disposal so if I don’t have the things that I’m desiring, then there’s a reason.  He knows everything (I don’t) so my best bet is to trust Him, ask for what I want, and trust Him to give it to me when the time is right.

Until then, I’ll thank Him for what I do have.

“You desire but do not have, so you kill.  You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.  You do not have because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

– James 4:2-3

There is a reason we have what we have & are lacking what we are lacking.

“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

– Psalm 37:4

Do you delight yourself in the Lord?  Do you spend time with Him?  Reading His Word, asking for Him to cleanse your heart?

It is critical that we spend time with Him.  If we don’t, we’re asking for things for all the wrong reasons- it’s inevitable.  Us without God = Bad business.  Spending time with Him cleanses us, renews our minds, so the things that we ask for are within His will to give us.  It’s like He puts His mind in us so that we ask for what He already wants to give us- because He gave us the desire!

The key to it all is spending time with Him.  Lord, help us to appreciate the little things and trust You to give us the other things that we desire.  Help us to see and appreciate all the little things that You do for us, and realize that they really aren’t all that little after all.

With Love,
