The coronavirus has completely changed our way of life. Our home has become our home base, the ripping and running has been removed, and our routines have been altered. I most certainly don’t downplay the seriousness of the issue at hand, but I can’t overlook the blessings that have resulted. Now, more than ever, we should all recognize the importance of building a family.
Our society has a culture, which magnifies money, music, and most certainly celebrities. On the other hand, God’s system highlights love, joy, and peace just to name a few. The world promotes carousel dating and sex, while God says:
“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”
– I Corinthians 7:2
Our current way of life is opening my eyes to the importance of building a family.
Consider your own life journey. Can you trace many of your issues back to your family life? What was lacking? What did you experience? Many of us commit to our children the way we do as a result of what we experienced in childhood. I can personally attest to that.
Now that life has slowed down and you have more time with your children, focus on them. Really focus in on them. Focus on building your family. It’s sometimes easy to focus on the big picture and miss the little, big moments. Don’t be distracted by things with little value, and downplay the responsibility of raising a family.
In these times, how are you building your family? Are you using the slower pace to build relationships, or is there so much disfunction that you don’t know where to start?
I encourage you to take the time today to really assess the condition of your family. Don’t overly focus on what you can’t control while neglecting things that you can. You can make a difference in your family. If you’re not sure where to start, pray that God will show you and lead you. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13), and He longs to help us do His will.
We may not be able to change the world, but by relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we can change our families. If we all start there, we’d be surprised by the impact we’d see in the world.
