Beat the Monday Morning Blues

Monday mornings are not always easy. Monday means back to business and it often comes so quickly that we aren’t quite ready. If we don’t take the time in advance to prepare for our week, we will find ourselves flustered and frustrated on Monday morning. Despite how it starts, we don’t have to give in. There are ways that we can respond in order to beat the Monday morning blues.

5 Ways to Beat the Monday Morning Blues

1. Spend time with God. This is imperative. Though we are all pulled in various directions, our #1 focus must be God [Matthew 22:37-38]. Spending time with God through prayer and His Word provides us clarity, grants us peace, and gives us sound direction for the day. Take some time to pray, journal, and read God’s Word and allow Him to calm you just as He calmed the sea [Matthew 8:23-27]. Spending time with God is imperative everyday, but most certainly as we are starting a new week.

2. Slow down. Mornings in general can be rushed, but as much as we can we need to slow down in order to combat the Monday morning blues. Take a moment before getting out of bed to slow your mind. Slow your pace in order to get grounded & focused.

3. Do what you can. If Monday comes and you haven’t yet prepared for the day & week, you won’t feel as confident on Monday morning. Even if you haven’t fully prepared, it’s imperative to simply do what you can. This may mean making quick decisions about the best thing to do at the time. Put thought into your actions and do what you can in order to start off strong.

“And he saith unto them, ‘Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”

– Matthew 8:26

4. Plan as you go. Maybe you hadn’t planned well for Monday, but you can start now and plan as you go. Start thinking about what you need to do and what do you want to accomplish this week. You’ve felt the consequences of not fully planning but don’t throw in the towel. Start planning now as you go through the day and this will surely help alleviate the Monday morning blues.

5. Keep perspective. It’s easy to over-complicate life by overthinking. Don’t get stuck in your mind and overwhelm yourself by thinking about all of the little details. Don’t go down a negative path thinking of what you should have and could have done. Acknowledge what you could have done and commit to doing better, but keep perspective:

“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

– Psalm 118:24

None of us are exempt from having a rough day. The Monday morning blues are real and we can find ourselves struggling on any particular day of the week. Whenever the struggle comes, know that it does not have power over you. There is a power within you that enables you to overcome anything that comes your way. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).

Now, let’s conquer this Monday!
