Free to Work: 5 TIPS

Are you free to work? One thing I recall realizing while still in my teens was that distractions limit effectiveness at work. I vividly remember working in a call center, unable to concentrate on work because of drama that was going on in my life. It was then that I remember beginning to focus on limiting distractions so I could be free to work.

Work is a significant portion of our lives, and as we follow Christ and grow in understanding our life’s purpose, our work should align with our purpose. Not pursuing your life purpose is a sure way to live life working unfulfilled and unhappy. What kind of life is that? We must grow in understanding the importance of work in our lives.

Free to Work: 5 TIPS

1. Limit Drama & Distractions

After our spiritual and family priorities, work is most likely the next big thing in our lives. In order for you to be free to work, you must limit drama & distractions. Throughout our lives, the type of work we do will likely change, however, in order to work well and get to a place of actually doing work that we love, we must limit drama & distractions.

This one can be huge, and I believe it’s one of the first steps we must take with regards to being free to work. One of the most common obstacles preventing people from moving forward in life is their inability to limit drama & distractions. 2. Focus

Being free to work will require you to focus. This is another common issue. We often fail to focus on what’s most important, while paying a significant amount of attention to that which holds little to no value. After liming drama & distractions, you will need to begin focusing your attention on your work. Put and keep your focus on your work. Focus on that which will move you forward.

I often think of people that have achieved greatness in their particular arena. Michael Jordan, for instance. Think of the amount of focus it required for him to perform at such a high level.

3. Dream

A few years back, God brought to my attention that I was failing to dream. Sometimes due to certain life seasons, or because of a lack of immediate change, we’ll stop dreaming. We all may experience it in one way or another, but I encourage you to begin to dream. Look at where you are and consider where you want to be. Dream, envision, pray.

I remember being a college student, browsing high level jobs that I wasn’t qualified for, but now I am.

Your today does not have to be your tomorrow. You do have the ability to change your life.

4. Work

So often we dream, yet we fail to put in the work. Let me tell you this:

Anything worth having will not come easy. You will have to put in the work.

I love this scripture:

“For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.”

– Ecclesiastes 5:3

5. Keep Growing

If you’re like me, you’re all about the destination/the arrival; however, as I get a little older and wiser, I’m realizing more and more that the meat is in the journey. The journey is where we grow, where we learn, where we develop. The arrival is simply the result of the process, the journey, the growth. The arrivals that we have in life are much more rare than the journey. Life itself is a journey.

Whatever comes our way, we must keep growing.

Stay committed to Christ. Keep following Him for He is a sure guide that is able to navigate you through all of the twists and turns of life. As we keep Him first, limit drama & distractions, begin to focus, start dreaming again, work, and stay committed to growing through it all; I sincerely believe that we’ll all end up in a place that is far beyond what we could have ever imagined:

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”

– Ephesians 3:20

IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN!
