Take Control of Your Day: 5 Tips

Life has changed for us all due to the coronavirus, however, if we are still breathing we are still living.

As long as you are living, you must take control of your day.

Times like these are perspective-shifters. Who are you living for? What are you living for? What anchors you?

When we are faced with disaster is when we are faced with what’s on the inside of us.

“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”

– Proverbs 24:10

On our own, our strength is extremely limited. Though we don’t like to accept this truth about our human existence, we are dependent creatures. We were created to depend on One who has unlimited strength and power.

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

– Psalm 100:1-3

This is the first truth that we must accept if we are to take control of our days in these trying times.

We don’t belong to ourselves. Our lives are not on our own. We have been bought with a price, therefore, our #1 priority in life must be to glorify God with our lives (I Corinthians 6:19-20). Once we adjust our minds & humble our hearts, we can take control of our day in the midst of whatever comes our way.

Take Control of Your Day: 5 Tips

1. Get up. Though you may not be able to get out, you must still get up. Getting up is the first step toward getting focused for the day.

2. Look at yourself. Grab a mirror and look at yourself. Really. This will allow you to begin to see yourself for who you really are. Look at yourself with no makeup. Remove the cover-ups and get real with yourself.

3. Work on you. To be honest with you, I’m grateful for the slower pace of life. A few weeks back, the Lord began to slow me down. My soul was getting tired and I knew I needed to begin to spend much more time with Him. Use this down time to work on you. Rest in the Lord’s care. Allow Him to restore your soul.

“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

– Psalm 23:3

4. Relate to others. Times like this show us that we’re all human. Though we tend to focus on our differences, we actually have many commonalities. Suffering connects us all. Allow these times to sensitize your hardened heart and relate to others.

5. Focus on today. Another lesson that the Lord has been teaching me is how I really don’t know what a day may bring forth. This truth has been humbling me, allowing me to live in the moment and truly be thankful for what I have right now. Focus on today. Know that each day has enough trouble of it’s own (Matthew 6:34). No need to worry about tomorrow.

As children of the most high God, we have been called to walk in faith no matter what comes our way. I pray that you are blessed by these 5 tips to take control of your day.

Blessings to you and your family,
