In life, we often find ourselves trying to control everything around us: our mate, our children, our friends, etc. You may not think you’re trying to control, but how do you respond when things don’t go your way? Instead of trying to control situations, I’m encouraging you to control your mind.
Our mind is such a powerful force, yet we must control it to make it work for us and not against us. Where our thoughts go everything else will follow. Our emotions follow our mind. Our actions follow our mind. Beliefs, attitudes, and even self-esteem are all directed and influenced by the mind.
We can have everything in the world but if our mind isn’t effectively controlled then we won’t be happy. I have found that sometimes the more you receive in life the more your mind is attacked, therefore, our peace and stability is not in our things, but rather it’s more closely tied to our state of mind.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.”
– Isaiah 26:3
As you control your mind, direct it to the Lord. He promises us perfect peace as we trust in Him.
When you find your mind going somewhere that isn’t healthy, stop it! You control your mind- don’t let it control you. Recently, my mind was trying to get me to follow it down a negative path, but the Holy Spirit reminded me:
Know the truth and stand on it.
It is imperative for us to spend time in the Word of God. As we grow in His Word, we grow in our ability to discern truth from lies. Satan will never stop attacking our minds, and he is subtle and very deceitful. The only defense against Satan is the Word of God.
“Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
– Ephesians 6:11
When your mind tries to send you down a negative path, as it so often does, I encourage you to do the same:
Know the truth and stand on it.
When facing situations and you don’t know exactly what to do, accept that. God has not called us to have the answer to every situation that we face. He has called us, however, to trust Him. Don’t let worry control your mind. You can rest in the truth that as you trust in Him, He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
You have nothing to worry about. Absolutely nothing.
