whats your agenda by Margo Woodward

What’s Your Agenda?

All around us people have hidden agendas.  I’m not solely pointing the finger because we all have to be watchful to ensure that we’re not operating with hidden agendas.  We have to be intentional to keep our hearts pure or else we’ll be operating with agendas that we’re not even aware of.

For instance, if a person has a control issue then they will very often be operating from a place of control- though not intentionally.  Controlling others is in their heart so that will often drive what they do, even without them consciously making a decision to control others.  So, the person who has unresolved control issues in their heart will live with an agenda to control.

The same goes for insecurity, fear, selfishness, pride, and so on.  I believe we all have to fight selfishness.  If we’re not careful, all we’ll focus on is our desires, our wants, our dreams.  That’s selfish.  Selfishness blinds us to the needs of others.  We have to move to a place of selflessness.

Jesus Himself said:

Just as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

– Matthew 20:28

We shouldn’t be so consumed with our own lives, that we have no time to serve others.  We must grow to  realize that we are here to serve, to help, and first and foremost to follow Jesus.  Following Jesus will lead us to do the things that He has called us to do.

If we don’t follow Him, trust me, people will find things for you to do- though it may not be what Jesus would have you to do.  We can also create our own plans, but I know without a doubt that any plans we can create on our own will be much less fulfilling than the plans that God has for us.

Follow Jesus.

This recently inspired me:

“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

 – Matthew 4:19

Jesus was walking by the sea and this was his first statement to Peter and Andrew.  No hello, no introduction, no explanation- Just follow me.  Can you imagine?  Jesus telling them to just drop everything and follow Him.  Say goodbye to your business, your normal way of living, your current agenda & follow me.

This is so powerful to me.  What’s even more phenomenal is that they immediately followed him!  No questions, no hesitation.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

– John 10:27

Peter and Andrew left their nets and followed him (Matthew 4:20).  Now, this is faith in action.  They dropped their agendas and picked up  His agenda.

What’s your agenda?

We all may have different paths to walk, but ultimately as Christians we should all be growing in our ability to follow Jesus.  Life constantly throws distractions at us in an attempt to deter us from following the only One who is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

In Jesus we have everything we need, in Jesus we have victory over everything.

The condition of our heart sets our agenda. It is so important for us to constantly assess and deal with the issues of our heart, because whatever is in there will come out- whether we realize it or not.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

– Proverbs 4:23

What’s in your heart?  Why don’t you follow Jesus as you should?   What’s your current agenda?

We all have obstacles to overcome.  We’re all bombarded with distractions, but let’s assess our heart and identify those things that are preventing us from following Jesus at all costs.

Identify them and deal with them.  You cannot conquer what you won’t confront.  Take some time today to deal with your hidden agendas.  Uncover those agendas that maybe you weren’t even aware of and replace them with His agenda.
