Life is merely a continuous collection of processes. Think about even a day. There is a process of rising, getting started, and working on our duties for the day. On a larger scale, life is seasonal, and there are processes that must take place in every area of living. Not understanding why things are happening, or how they will connect to the next season, often cause us frustration. Today, I want to encourage you to trust the process.
One thing that I continue to learn is that: I am not in control. You know how sometimes we say things, as though we believe them, but our actions are contradictory? For instance, we may say we know we’re not in control, but then get mad when things don’t go our way. We say we’re not in control, but internally we think we are, which causes us to move in a presumptuous, controlling way.
Instead of trying to control, we must trust the process. Control demands, trust accepts.
As we trust the process, we are not merely observing life happen all around us. Nor, are we victims, allowing life to happen to us. Instead, we use our energies in the best way, not expending everything we have to secure a certain result. Trusting the process is about doing our part, while allowing God to do His.
Trusting the process will require prayer, obedience, and action.
We all have a fleshy nature with certain desires and tendencies. For instance, today while reflecting and resting in the Lord, I was reminded of Jesus’ words to Martha, when He clarified that Mary chose what was better [Luke 10:42]. We all have to stay mindful of prioritizing to ensure that we are choosing the better things. Do you ever consider your actions and if they are the better things to do?
The world that we live in aims to keep us so busy that we mindlessly go from one task to the next, without having the time to give thought to our actions. This is not the life that God created us for. God will often require us to stop and sit in His presence, as we can see Him recognizing Mary for doing just that in the previous passage.
This time of resting in His presence will grow our trust in Him. As we trust Him, we are able to trust the processes that we find ourselves in.
No matter the season we find ourselves in, life is imperfect, and we will likely find ourselves questioning a circumstance. We may even find ourselves questioning bigger issues pertaining to: purpose, marriage, parenting, etc. These are big issues that can easily stress and perplex us, if we are not trusting in Him.
Instead of worrying over all the things, like Martha in the previous passage, let us turn our attention toward Him. As we do, we can bring every concern, worry, doubt, fear, or question, and lay it at His feet. May we trust His Word to speak to us and guide us through every situation that we face.
If you continue to experience uncertainty, focus on one decision at a time. Focus on doing the right thing, one situation at a time. Pray, obey His Word, and take actions that line up with His Word.
As you do, you can trust the process, and trust that He will work everything for your good [Romans 8:28].
