Our minds are in a constant battle. How do you fight the daily battle of the mind?
On a daily basis we fight to determine what’s real, what’s right, and what’s true. We’re constantly faced with situations and decisions, while our minds face the fight to figure things out.
The Daily Battle of the Mind: 5 Tips
1. Our battle is not against flesh and blood.
Many of the issues that we face in life involve people, however, it is very important for us to remember that our fight is not against people. We must remember that even though we physically live in the natural realm, the spiritual realm is very real and constantly at work.
Don’t allow your mind to trick you into thinking that your fight is against people. It never is. It’s all spiritual.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
– Ephesians 6:12
2. Don’t try to figure everything out.
It is quite natural for us to think things through and try to figure everything out. We have to learn that everything is not meant for us to figure out, and that while attempting to figure things out we are losing mental energy that we should be exerting toward the work that God has called us to do.
No matter what we face, God already has it figured out. So, let’s just trust Him and allow Him to completely work it out for us. The Lord is our Shepherd, we have everything we need (Psalm 23:1) and absolutely nothing to worry about. Absolutely nothing.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
– Proverbs 3:5
3. We must saturate ourselves with the Word of God on a daily basis.
It’s easy to think that we’re good with what we’ve learned about the Word of God thus far. This is so wrong. What we’ve learned about the Word of God has brought us to where we are now, but if we desire to continue to progress in life we must continue to saturate ourselves and grow in the Word. Spending time in God’s Word prepares us, strengthens us, encourages us, and equips us to handle everything that we’ll face in life. We need to consume the Word daily in order to combat the daily battle of the mind.
4. Satan constantly works to get us to see things the wrong way.
It is quite humbling to understand the attack that our minds are under on a daily basis. Satan tries to work at the root. He works to get us to think about things the wrong way. He knows that if we see things the wrong way then we will respond the wrong way and ultimately self-sabotage and self-destruct our own lives. This is deep.
For instance, Satan will work to get you to think wrongly of something that is right. He will also aim to get you to think that something is right when in actuality it is very wrong. Satan is very, very deceitful and very, very subtle. Remember, it’s all spiritual. As we understand that our thoughts are under attack, we realize that we cannot always trust our own thinking.
This is why we must completely depend on the Word of God to direct our thoughts. Our Pastor often says: We must check every thought.
The more time we spend in God’s Word, the easier it is to spot Satan in his deception. Without the Word of God dominating our minds, we are easy prey to believing and acting on the lies of Satan without even realizing it.
5. We should expect the fight.
We can never get comfortable and feel like we have it all figured out. Don’t allow pride to make you feel exempt from certain struggles. We never know what a day may bring forth (Proverbs 27:3), so we must always remain humble and realize that as long as we are in this world that we will have a fight.
This will help us to remain vigilant and diligent. We must realize that we will always have an enemy who seeks to steal from us, kill us, and destroy us; but there is more- Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly (John 10:10).
No matter what we face, it is not greater than Jesus.
Greater is He that is within us, than he that is in the world (I John 4:4). No matter where we go, no matter how dark it gets, we must not fear because Jesus is with us (Psalm 23:4). He has promised to never leave us, nor forsake us (Joshua 1:5).
Regardless of the battles you face, store these words of Jesus in your heart:
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
