The Challenge of Simply Living: 3 Tips

I don’t know about you, but it is difficult for me to simply live. I have a tendency to work and prepare, but the Lord is currently teaching me how to simply live. What about you? How do you overcome the challenge of simply living?

The Challenge of Simply Living: 3 Tips

1. Stop worrying.

We don’t always spot worrying for what it really is. We may sugarcoat it as planning or thinking through things, but more often than not it is worrying. Worrying will prevent us from enjoying the present by shifting our attention to what could be. We don’t know what the future holds. We’re not in control, and worrying won’t change a thing.

In order to simply live, we must stop worrying and start trusting.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:26-27

2. Stop judging.

Lately, the Lord has been opening my eyes to how often I’m in judgment mode. Just like worrying, judging can manifest itself in various ways. Judging will cause us to constantly assess situations and people, which is closely related to comparing and ranking. Judging is not a healthy behavior and will often lead to feelings of pride or inferiority.

In order to simply live, we must stop judging and start loving.

“You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.”

Romans 14:10

3. Stop Overthinking.

Do you ever give your mind a break from thinking? Or, are you constantly thinking about what’s to come, what you have to do, what you didn’t do. If we are going to enjoy the lives that God has blessed us with, we must give our brains a break and begin to rest in the truth that we are mere sheep in need of a Shepherd. God did not create us to take care of ourselves. We are completely unable to take care of ourselves.

In order to simply live, we must stop overthinking and start resting.

“Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Psalm 100:3

God desires to walk us through life so we can learn how to do things His way. With Him there is a better way. We can live free from worrying, judging, or excessive thinking. I pray that this post helps you to overcome the challenge of simply living. We can simply trust Him to take care of us as His Word tells us He will.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need.”

Psalm 23:1
