So often we find ourselves questioning, instead of believing. We question ourselves, our abilities, our worth. We question others, their motives, their reasonings. And worst of all, we question God, His promises, and His Word.
Lord, help us to stop questioning & start believing.
I’m finding that our questioning is really rooted in fear and insecurity. We don’t trust, so we question. We’re afraid of being hurt, so we question. We’ve hardened our hearts, so we question. That’s not right, and it surely isn’t love:
Love beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things (I Corinthians 13:7).
God has called us to walk in love.
“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us…”
– Ephesians 5:1-2a
God has called us to walk around bearing, believing, hoping, enduring.
The world has conditioned us to walk around protecting, defending, accusing, mistrusting. As we walk with God, we have to take off the ways of the world and put on the ways of God. How else will others see God on this earth?
We have to walk how He walks.
Jesus said:
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
– John 13:35
The only way we can do this is if we trust Him. We have to know His Word and trust in His Word.
He will fight for us:
“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” – Exodus 14:14
He will defend us:
“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” – Psalm 91:4
He will protect us:
“There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” – Psalm 91:10-11
He will reward us:
“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” – Psalm 37:1-3
Stop Questioning & Start Believing.
As we do, we are then able to live life freely loving others, trusting God, not worrying about a thing. As I meditate on the above scriptures, it increases my ability to love- even my enemies.
I’m gaining more appreciation for Psalm 23. I understand and feel the words that David the psalmist penned:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
– Psalm 23:4
What are we worried about?
He is with us so we fear no evil. He is covering us so we can love. He is leading us so we can trust. He has bestowed His unfailing love on us, so we are able to simply give away what’s been freely given to us.
