Today I stayed in bed all day. Yesterday wasn’t the best day. I felt a sense of uncertainty regarding my work- more specifically my gift.
I woke up this morning grumpy, negative, lacking optimism for the day. Did I mention it was a rainy day? All I felt like doing was sleeping, and after my morning drop-offs and a quick work-out, that’s exactly what I did. I slept.
I share all that with you to get you to this. Later in the day, I finally sat with the Lord (which ideally I would’ve done first thing this morning but I’m not perfect) and within 15 minutes I got exactly what I needed.
I received clarity regarding the past 2 days.
It. Was. All. Spiritual.
I was humbled at how clearly the Lord spoke to me through His Word. I was excited at the spiritual clarity that He gave me. I was energized to do the work that the Lord has called me to do. Now, let me share a few key takeaways:
Spiritual Attacks Come In Various Forms
1. Question your own fatigue. Realize that though Satan does not have all power like our God, he does have power. Satan is spiritual, strategic and does not play fair. He has more than 1 weapon in his toolkit, therefore, we can’t just give in to feelings of fatigue and exhaustion. Satan works to oppress us- in various ways.
As the Lord opened my eyes to my experiences today, He allowed me to realize how if we’re not careful Satan will turn fatigue into oppression, and oppression into depression. Again, remember that Satan does not play fair. We don’t often jump from one extreme to the other, but rather there are subtle, gradual changes. As the saying goes: “If you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile.”
I love this passage:
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” – Psalm 42:5
I love this because David, the psalmist, is basically talking to his own soul! He asks his own soul: Why are you cast down? Then, goes on to say: Hope in God. I don’t know about you but I shall yet praise Him!
We must mature spiritually and not allow our feelings to dominate us.
2. Check your feelings. Our feelings are often indicators of deeper spiritual issues. Are your emotions unstable? Negative? Do you often feel down for no apparent reason? I have much experience here and as I write this I’m honestly so humbled to even be able to share on this topic from a place of freedom.
Our feelings provide insight into what’s going on within us. Often, there are chains and unresolved issues in our heart that we aren’t even aware of. The book, BREAK FREE & LIVE! is a must-read if you are struggling with your emotions. In this book, I share what I learned through my own personal freedom journey so that Christ may open your eyes and set you free, too.
We’re often bound by more chains than we’re aware of. BUT GOD. Christ came to set the captives free and oh am I thankful. You can get BREAK FREE & LIVE! here.
3. Stand on the Word. On our own we are no match for Satan, but we are never alone. We have God and He promises to never leave us nor forsake us, we have Christ on the right hand of God interceding for us right now, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us guiding us into all truth, and you know what else we have?
We have the Word of God.
The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). The Word of God is the sword with which we fight (Ephesians 6:17). We must learn to fight with God’s Word. Nothing else will do.
How did Jesus fight when Satan tempted Him? With the Word. In Matthew 4, you will repeatedly find the words: “It is written.” “It is written again.” “For it is written.”
I pray that as you are facing spiritual attacks in various forms that you will focus on what’s been written. Read what’s been written. Speak what’s been written. Nothing else will do.
Much Love,
