MARRIAGE & FAMILY: Taking Care of Home

As women, we have various obligations and responsibilities. In the course of a day, we are pulled in many different directions, wearing many different hats. One thing we must never forget is that as a wife & mom, we must prioritize taking care of home.

When you consider taking care of home, what comes to your mind? Our situations and seasons may vary, but most women would think of things like:

  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Organizing
  • Planning
  • Orchestrating

No doubt, these are definitely aspects of taking care of home, but let me propose a few others:

  • Loving
  • Teaching
  • Forgiving
  • Creating
  • Growing

The role of a woman in the home is huge, and I’ll be honest and share that this is an area that God is actively growing me in. Today, women are pulled in so many directions. Spiritually, mentally, and emotionally we are often pulled from our higher priorities. It’s even tough for women to stay at home to care for their birthed babies because they fear missing out and falling behind. This shouldn’t be so.

As women, we must grow in prioritizing our work at home.

This is not a one-time effort, but a continual day-to-day process. We must prioritize spending time in God’s Word so that we can understand His mind toward the woman’s role. God is orderly and His Word provides us the instructions that we need for life. He has left nothing out. We do not have to go out and figure life out. As we prioritize Him, He shows us the way. His way.

Consider these scriptures:

“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”

– Proverbs 14:1

Are you building at home?

“Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.”

– Proverbs 17:1

Do you value peace above things?

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

– Proverbs 15:1

Are your words gentle and soft, or harsh and provoking?

“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”

– Proverbs 31:27

Are you attentive and productive in your home?

The more that we trust God to lead us as it relates to taking care of home, the more we will begin to see just how needed we are. Yes, taking care of home involves cleaning and cooking, but truly it is about so much more than that.

Taking care of home is about being a good steward over the lives that God has entrusted to us.

We must pray that God will show us how to take care of the families that He’s given us. As we yield and obey to His leading, we will be continually surprised at how much work is really required at home. Let’s not be led away from our families by the temptations and distractions of the world. Instead, let’s be renewed by God’s Word and allow Him to show us the importance of taking care of home.

With love,
