Creating a Grace-Filled Home: 5 TIPS

What’s the atmosphere of your home? How does your family interact with one another? Our home should be a safe space for the family, yet it certainly won’t happen on it’s own. It takes intention. As you’re focused on creating a grace-filled home, here are 5 tips.

5 Tips to Creating a Grace-Filled Home:

1. HUMILITY. Where there is pride, there is no grace. Pride places demands upon others and is critical and judgmental, while humility is gracious and patient. As parents, it’s imperative for us to humble ourselves before the Lord and His Word as this will allow us to parent with humility & grace. As the Lord humbles our heart and mind, this will enable us to infuse grace within our family atmosphere.

2. LOVE. How great of a lover are you? I’m finding that apart from the Lord, I’m not that great at all. Naturally, humans are selfish creatures. II Timothy 3:2 warns us against being lovers of self. If we are going to experience the blessing of a sound family structure, we must emphasize love. It’s easy to overemphasize the importance of education and extracurriculars, but truly it’s the love of a family that make life worth living.

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”

– I Corinthians 13:2

3. FORGIVENESS. If we are going to experience grace within our home, we must learn how to forgive. Our kids need to see us model forgiveness. They need to see us apologize and accept ownership for our wrongs. We must demonstrate forgiveness for them so they learn how to forgive. Forgiveness is at the base of grace. Grace is extending love and kindness even when it is not deserved. As we demonstrate grace within our families, we are simply extended what has already been freely given to us by God through Christ Jesus.

4. PRAYER. There is no way to grow in grace apart from God. The only way for us to grow in grace is to grow in Christ. Prayer is an essential aspect of a grace-filled home. The home must be a home of prayer. God and His Word must be the foundation of the home. No other foundation will hold. Where there is a reliance on God and His Word, there is the ability to create a grace-filled home.

5. FUN! It is so easy to overlook the importance of fun in a family. For some, however, there can be an over-reliance on fun. Only the Holy Spirit can guide us down the balanced path of fun within the home. Where there is joy, laughter, and peace, there is grace. It is essential to be able to infuse fun in the home on a regular basis. By walking in love and personally experiencing the joy of Christ, we are able to create a grace-filled home where the family can have fun together.

I pray that you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in creating a more grace-filled home for your family. It is a process, but it is well worth the effort. A family is truly a gift from God and thank goodness He hasn’t left us alone to care for it. He is there to guide us every step of the way. We just have to depend on Him.
