To be transparent means to be free from pretense or deceit. When we are transparent we are easily detected or seen through, readily understood.
How many of us are truly transparent? How often does pride stop us from sharing something? How often do we stop ourselves from doing something because of how it may make us ‘look’?
What about this one:
What would they think of me?
Take some time to consider that.
So much of what we do is not an accurate representation of who we truly are. The world pressures us in ways that we don’t fully realize. Media, music, and our culture all influence the things we do. Our thoughts are influenced which in turn impact how we behave. Ultimately, the world seeks to influence who we are.
Sometimes we are addicted to the approval of others. Sometimes we don’t even realize it, sometimes we do. We desire to give people what they expect from us, even if it’s not who we truly are. We want them to smile and be in continuous agreement with us.
We don’t always have to conform to what is around us.
Actually, most of the time we shouldn’t.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2
I think we would all be amazed at how much we could truly impact and encourage others by simply just being ourselves. Being transparent.
Reflect upon this. Try it out. Make gradual steps. Take your mask off.
Open up, trust yourself, get to know yourself, get comfortable being you! Show the world who you really are.
