I sit to write this as a 34-year old wife and mother of 3. My heart is with the single mommas on the eve of this 2020 Mother’s Day because I know it’s not easy. I’ve lived it and it’s only by the grace of God that I made it through. Now, I want to encourage you.
A Note to Single Mommas:
First off all, I need you to know that you can do it.
Stop saying you can’t do it by yourself. Stop begging for support, crying that you can’t raise these kids by yourself. You can do it. I know it’s not ideal and prayerfully it won’t be permanent, but you must let go of the chaos, the drama, the craziness.
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
Secondly, you need to take ownership.
Your kids did not enter this world due to their own decisions. You made a decision that brought them here. Sister, you must stop blaming. You are not a victim. You have to take ownership for the situation. This is the first step in changing your circumstances. Don’t forget:
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
Thirdly, you need to get your focus together.
What have you been focusing on? Stop focusing on the wrong things and focus on what will make the situation better for you and your kids. Quick recap: 1) You can do it. 2) You need to take ownership. 3) You need to get your focus together. Stop putting energy into what brings back no results. Shift your focus. Use your energy like money. Aim for a good return on your investment.
Fourth, get some goals & dreams.
Are you happy with your life? If not, you need to get with God and get His plan for your life. Why did He create you? Surely, not for misery. He knows the plans He has for you. He has plans to prosper you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). God has plans for you, you just have to seek Him to get in on His plans.
Lastly, work.
You will have to work to change your situation. You will have to work hard, and honestly you may work longer than you’d prefer without seeing the results that you’re after. Sometimes, God will move in quick and change everything. Other times, His timing will not be our timing and we will have to simply trust Him and keep working.
Whatever you do, don’t give up. Don’t fold. Don’t go back. Do not settle. God’s way is right and though it won’t be easy, it is always worth it. Think about how easy it was to fall into wrong situations. The wrong thing is often easy, while the right thing is often hard. Remember that. You have to be strong to do the right thing, and I know you can do it.
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
Happy Mothers Day 2020.
With love,
