Don’t Be Petty

So often we get moved by stuff that doesn’t even matter.

We have to grow to a place of realizing that some things are just not that important.  Some things don’t matter and don’t even require our energy or attention.

If we don’t grow beyond focusing on petty matters then unfortunately we won’t accomplish much with our lives.  If we spend all of our time on petty issues how can we devote ourselves to worthy matters?  How can we live the lives that God has called us to live if we fuss and fight over insignificant issues?

Synonyms for petty are: little, narrow-minded, and small-minded.  Antonyms are: open-minded and receptive.

Let’s not be petty.

Overlooking petty issues requires maturity, patience, and spiritual sight.  We need spiritual sight to even be able to see that issues are petty.  Some people are caught up in petty issues and don’t even realize they are petty!  Let’s pray for eyes to see issues for what they really are.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”  – Ephesians 4:1-3

We all have a calling.  We are called to live worthy of our calling.  Humility.  Gentleness.  Patience.  Peace.

Pay attention to the issues in your life that are calling your attention.  It may be that they are distracting you from your calling.  Also, keep in mind that the more time you waste on petty issues there are real issues in your life that are actually being neglected.

When determining if issues are petty or not, ask yourself: Does this really matter?

Some issues appear to be important but they are really not.  We must pray for eyes to see.

Help us Lord to overlook petty issues and petty offences and focus our attention toward what matters most- the calling that You have on our life.  Amen.

Sincerely,

Margo
