Why are you saved?

“We’re not saved by works, but we’re saved for works.”  These are the words of my Pastor Sam Holmes, Jr.

A lot of times we don’t have the best understanding when it comes to being saved.  A lot of people think they have to start living right before they get saved.  They feel they aren’t good enough based on how they’re currently living.

This is so far from the truth!  Jesus said “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.  I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”  Luke 5:31-32

So, we should have confidence to go to Jesus exactly how we are.  We’ve gotten so used to people accepting us when we’re all cleaned up, so we have the same attitude with Jesus.  But Jesus accepts us dirty, sinful and all.  Go to him and allow Him to save you.

Secondly, what do we do once we’re saved?  WORK.  First, we work on ourselves.  We work with Jesus to get ourselves clean.  He will change us from the inside out if we allow him to.  I mean if we REALLY allow him to work on us then we will become unrecognizable to those who knew us before.

Then, we will begin to do work for Jesus.  This is related to our purpose.  When we were created, God had a specific purpose in mind for us.  He had a job laid out for us that only we can do.  We must begin to seek our purpose.  We must ask God “Why did you create me?”  “What do you have for me to do?”  Believe me there is a particular job He has for you.

Remember, Jesus doesn’t expect us to be perfect.  He knows we’re all sinners, so don’t be ashamed to go to Him so he can save you.  And once you get saved don’t get lazy.  Be prepared to work.  🙂
