I’ve started to think of my relationship with God like the relationship between a teenage daughter and her father. As long as she stays in his good graces she can get anything she desires, but the moment she begins to rebel he begins withholding things.
This is exactly how I feel about my relationship with God. I completely understand the benefit of doing things His way, and I feel that he spoils me as long as I’m in good relationship with Him. Here are a few scriptures to back up my feelings:
Deuteronomy 28:1-3 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.”
Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
Psalm 37:25-26 “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.
Joshua 1:8 “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
See the trend? I guess my feelings about God are accurate, and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
Obedience sets us up for success. Doing the right thing pays off if you ask me. 🙂
Side note: I emphasized the words that stood out to me. They are not bold in the Bible.
