Success Requires Struggle

I just watched the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” and it made me cry and moved me to write.  Immediately I knew the title of this post would be “Success Requires Struggle”.

Somehow, we’ve come to believe that success just happens.  Everyone wants to be rich, but no one wants to put in the work.  We want success without effort.  Well, it’s not going to happen that way.

It seems that success only comes to those who work hard.  I mean work really hard.  Success comes to those who are determined, smart, and strong.  When I say smart I mean smart when it comes to something.  You don’t have to know everything, but you should put forth energy into learning SOMETHING really well.  In order for us to achieve success, we must become an expert in something.

Success will not come easy.  It will not be handed to us.  There is not a particular person that will be in charge of handing us success and happiness.  Nope.  We’re practically in control.  We’re not fully in control, we all know that some things are out of our control; but for the most part we are in control of us attaining success.

It seems that we all have different battles to overcome.  We’ll all have to fight in order to be successful, but we may fight different fights.  This makes life interesting. What fun would it be if everyone had the same story?

We don’t know what the future holds.  We don’t know exactly what battles we’ll have to fight, but the fact of the matter is that we must expect battles if we’re striving for success.

Stop expecting for success to come so easy.  Stay in there and fight until you get what you want.  I love this line from the movie: “You want something.  Go get it.  Period.”

So, when it gets tough and success seems so far away, remind yourself that success requires struggle.

  1. I loved that movie so much I bought it to remind me that success comes harder when you shoulder the responsibility of not only succeeding for yourself, but for the care of your family. It’s also a reminder to me of how blessed I am even in the face of feeling like I haven’t achieved much. Success is always relative to where you began when you sought it. I will continue to strive and move forward. Life should be a continuous journey for spiritual and self improvement. This movie has always inspired me. Good article!

    1. I love that! Very insightful, thank you for sharing Adrion! I loved how you said success is “always relative to where you began when you sought it”. I love this b/c it keeps us focused on our own journey and not on others! As I was watching it I thought this is a movie that I should buy. This and Tyler Perry’s “Temptation” are movies to watch that will keep me where I need to be in life. I love movies that help you to keep your mind right, not corrupt it with trashy content!
