Earlier I wrote about my new journal and how my theme for 2014 may be ‘soaring’. Well, for some reason the song “Fly” by Nicki Minaj just crossed my mind. I haven’t heard this song in forever! So I pulled it up on YouTube and WOW! I’ve heard this song many, many times but this time it’s different.
I appreciate ‘new’ things. New items, new days, new relationships, new months, new interests, new ideas, new thoughts, and yes New Years. I believe it’s very, very important for us to sit back and reflect on our year before we begin a new one. I try to analyze my life, the past year, and what I’ve accomplished. I also begin to prepare and envision what I’d like the next year to look like.
I ask myself: Where should my focus be? What do I want to accomplish? What do I want to do more of? Or what do I want to do less of?
I don’t do New Year’s resolutions; I normally just have focus areas that guide me along throughout the year. I tend to have a word or two that I use to keep me on track. One year my words were: work and growth. And I did just that!
I try to spend a lot of quiet time as the year is coming to a close. I pray, I fast, I write, I think. I like to clear out and prepare for the New Year.
I think I already have one of my words for next year- Soar. Or maybe Fly. Hmmm.. I’ll have to decide.
In the meantime, check this song out. This may just be my song for 2014- “Fly” by Nicki Minaj.
