There’s something special about people with passions. They tend to be more focused and goal-driven. Their passion gives them something to work towards, and more importantly it brings them happiness.
My younger cousin Bryan has always been passionate about basketball. When he was younger, most people described him as “Lil’ B who plays ball.”
Lately I’ve been noticing his drive and focus in life, so during a conversation we were having I decided I wanted to write about him. So I began questioning him, and a few of his responses even surprised me. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this. 🙂
The very first question I asked him was “When you think of basketball, what’s the first word that comes to mind?” His reply was “peace.”
His reply confirmed my previous statement- Passions bring happiness. I was eager to continue on. Read on..
Margo: When I’m playing basketball I feel…
Bryan: In another world.
Margo: Does basketball make you a better person?
Bryan: Yeah, it does. It allows me to stay focused in school. School comes first. If I don’t make the grades I can’t play and I’m determined to reach my goals. School and ball will allow me to put my family in a better situation down the line.
Margo: How does playing basketball affect being in a relationship?
Bryan: You have to find the right one who understands your schedule. When the girl thinks it’s all about her and she wants you to come and do this and that it will never work.
Margo: Has basketball always come natural to you? Did you ever struggle with it?
Bryan: Yeah it has. A nice gift from the man above. As far as struggle, yes I did when I didn’t have any offers coming out of high school. I didn’t know what to do. So I turned to trade school to prepare for my future.
Margo: What do you like most about playing basketball?
Bryan: You meet people from all over the world. You never know who’s watching.
I hope you enjoyed reading about Bryan. It’s funny how you can be around someone your whole life but if you don’t take the time or ask the right questions you never know what you don’t know.
I enjoyed this conversation with my cousin. I love him so much and I’m extremely proud of him. I’m very excited about his future!
Bryan is a Booker T. Washington High School graduate out of Tulsa, Okla. and is currently attending Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kan. where he’s on the men’s basketball team. He’s expecting to receive his associate’s degree in business management in spring 2014. After graduation he is considering transferring to Oklahoma State University.
